El Salvador begins with the first people were the nomadic tribes that came here around 3,000 B.C. known as the Nahua. Various other tribes would live here to include the Olmec and the Maya. There was also some Aztec and Toltec presence as was the case for the majority of this region in Central America.

The Spaniards came to the region in the 16th Century and found that it was mostly inhabited by a people known as the Pipil. These people were the first among the Mesoamerican Indian cultures to do away with the practice of human sacrifice.Spanish conqueror, Pedro de Alvarado and the Spanish army conquered the Pipil after a second attempt in 1525 and the district was brought under the domination of the Captaincy General of Guatemala until 1821. It was in this year that the shout of independence succeded after previous attempts failed in 1811 when vice royalty of Guatemala sent troops to crush an uprising movement composed of criollo and mestizos.

In 1822, El Salvador was joined with Mexico but chose to be an autonomous region.  Guatemalan troops sent to enforce union were driven out of the country.

El Salvador culture is a mixture of different influences mainly because of its past history. It’s history is one important factor for the  that From early indian migrants to Spanish explorers.  For fear of being united to Mexico, El Salvador petitioned the United States for statehood.  But 1823, after the Emperor was thrown out of power, the congress voted to allow Central American provinces to decide on their own. That year 5 states were united under the supervision of General Manuel Jose Arce.  These five states namely: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua formed the United Provinces of Central America.
